News — Washburn Rural Middle School students excel
Honor students place in History Day competition with suffrage theme
by Carol Yoho, LWV-Topeka/Shawnee County • April 2006
Kayla DuBois & Christy Peterson, 7th grade students at Washburn Rural Middle School, placed 2nd at Regional History Day held at Washburn University on February 25, 2006.
Their category was “Junior Group Exhibits.” The theme this year for
National History Day is “Taking a Stand in History.” The girls chose Susan B.
Anthony, titling their exhibit “Count Your Egg Money and Read Your Bible. Not for Susan B. Anthony.”
Their win qualified the girls to go to State History Day on April 22, 2006 at the Eisenhower Museum in Abilene. 1st and 2nd place at State allows the entries to compete at National History Day at the University of Maryland/Washington D.C. in June. History Day Sponsor is Mrs. Donna Sanders, Washburn Rural MS Gifted Facilitator. The girls sought information, via e-mail, in planning their exhibit from LWVTSC.
