2nd Congressional Candidate Debate:
The League of Women Voters and public televison station KTWU, Channel 11, sponsored a candidate debate between Nancy Boyda and Lynn Jenkins, candidates running for US House of Representaives 2nd Congressional District, broadcast on Wednesday October 1, 2008.
The program aired live from 8-9pm with a studio audience and a phone bank to take questions to the candidates. The questions from the audience and viewers were screened by a panel of League members, 2 Democrats and 2 Republicans, to make sure questions address issues relevant to the election. The program was re-aired on Tues., Oct, 28.

RECORD IT!
REPORT IT!
&
RECOVER IT!
The Safe Streets Coalition in partnership with the Topeka Police Department, Shawnee County Sheriff's Office, Crime Stoppers, and Topeka area pawn shops are promoting a program to deter theft of property and to help return property to the owner if it's stolen. Law enforcement reports that only one percent of all items in the property room are marked. The League has three invisible identification markers for members to use and then pass on to other members. These pens were available at the June Tuesday Topics meeting with the information on how to use them. We plan to have this information available at future Tuesday Topics meetings.
