50 Years: Mandelbaum/Crapson honored
Two of our members, Winnie Crapson and Fannie Mandelbaum have been members of the League for 50 years. Mary G. Wilson, President, League of Women Voters of the United States sent a letter with the 50-year certificates. Winnie was unable to attend the Annual Meeting in April, 2007, but Fannie attended, accepted her certificate and spoke a few words.
“Thank you for this citation. One of the best things I did living in Topeka is join the League of Women Voters. I enjoy the monthly meetings and I learn something valuable and useful every time.
“I was active many years ago. I wrote a pamphlet “Know Your City” and it was used by a few classes at Topeka High. I learned that Topeka was a good place to dig potatoes. In fact, it was a question on T.V.'s Millionaire recently and the contestant couldn't pick the right city out of four. I would have earned $16,000!
“I attended Unit Meetings for many years and led a few discussions.
“Now I look forward to the first Tuesday of the month for the next 50 years.”
Jan Waide informed Fannie that she no longer was required to pay dues since she was a member of long standing. Fannie replied, “Oh, I will pay dues! |
